Gnanarani “Rani” Devaraj is a proud first-generation South Asian immigrant who came to the United States on an H1B visa in the mid-1990s, driven by hard work, education, and the hope of building a better future.
Rani holds a Master’s Degree in Physics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Applications, and began her career as a research scholar in Cryogenics at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras. Her journey from science to technology and leadership reflects her passion for learning, innovation, and service.
As a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Six Sigma Champion, Rani has spent over two decades leading major business transformations in the healthcare and financial industry. She is known for her ability to bring people together, solve complex problems, and deliver meaningful change — qualities she’s now bringing to public service.
Beyond her professional career, Rani is deeply rooted in her community. She is an active member of St. Cecelia Church, a former Vice President of the PTO at Indiana Avenue School #18, and a dedicated volunteer who cooks and serves meals at the homeless shelter at Divine Mercy Parish in Rahway.
Rani believes in responsible growth, transparency in government, and giving every resident a voice. She’s running for Council to ensure our neighborhoods thrive without overdevelopment, our taxes remain fair, and our community values stay strong.
Residents across Iselin and Menlo Park Terrace have grown increasingly frustrated with the wave of overdevelopment that’s changing the character of their neighborhoods. The ongoing luxury apartment construction by an ultra-wealthy developer at the Metropark Train Station has worsened traffic, strained local infrastructure, and diminished the quality of life for commuters and families alike.
Many residents feel their concerns are being ignored. The current councilman often acts more as the mayor’s representative than the voice of the people he was elected to serve. He has aligned himself with the mayor’s team — not the people’s team.
Rani Devaraj is running to restore balance and accountability to the Town Council. With 30 years of professional experience managing people, projects, and budgets, she brings the skills and leadership needed to make responsible, transparent decisions. Rani is not a career politician or a developer with special interests — she is a community-minded professional who will always put residents first.
Rani believes it’s time to bring back checks and balances in local government. She is committed to questioning and reviewing every proposal to ensure fairness, transparency, and fiscal responsibility. She wants to be a visible and responsive representative for Iselin and Menlo Park Terrace — someone residents can count on to listen, act, and communicate openly.
Rani will also work to cut wasteful spending and identify practical ways to reduce taxes for hardworking families. Beyond fiscal issues, she is passionate about creating opportunities for the next generation. By partnering with banks and technology companies, she plans to launch youth internship programs that give local students valuable career experience and exposure to the professional world.
At her core, Rani believes leadership means standing with the people — not political insiders or developers. She’s running to ensure that Iselin and Menlo Park Terrace remain vibrant, balanced, and truly representative communities where every voice matters.
Woodbridge deserves leadership that shows up, listens, and fights for residents — not absentee politicians rubber-stamping bad deals.
The current councilman has missed 10 of 19 Council meetings this year, leaving residents without a voice and neglecting his most basic responsibilities like reviewing budgets and contracts.
Meanwhile, the Council — including our current representative — unanimously approved a 30-year tax abatement (PILOT – Payment in lieu of Taxes) for a wealthy developer to build a luxury apartment at the Metropark Train Station. That decision increases traffic, shifts the tax burden onto homeowners, and erodes our quality of life — all without meaningful public input or accountability.
Rani believes Woodbridge deserves better. She’ll show up, ask tough questions, and put residents first — not developers or political insiders.
Now is the time for change. Your vote for Rani is a vote for a Councilmember who will stand up for residents, fight for responsible development, and make sure your voice matters.
Together, we can restore accountability, protect our neighborhoods, and build a better future for Woodbridge.
